In startup parlance, I’m doing a beta launch for this personal blog. It doesn’t quite feel ready for primetime, but as is said that if it doesn’t feel broken then you’ve waited too long to launch. So here goes. To begin with, have ported here two posts on startups that I wrote a few months ago, as they are quite relevant.
At Globevestor, we’ve been actively investing in India for about two years now, and it’s been a great ride so far. As I write this, the venture investing sentiment globally and in India has come down from a state of euphoria to cautious optimism over the past 9-12 months. A global debate rages on about the explosion of privately-held unicorns and their mythical valuations. Closer home in India, critics cry foul over the seemingly unsustainable business models of e-commerce giants and hyperlocal minnows. No clear winners have emerged in any of those debates yet.
These should make interesting topics to explore on this blog. I’m personally quite excited to learn and write about them during this dual journey of being an entrepreneur and investor at the same time.
On a separate note, today marks the 70th Independence Day for India. Despite several problems, the country marches forward with vigor today, and the spirit of entrepreneurship has never been more buoyant around us. It just feels great and a good day for a new initiative.
Here’s to a small new beginning.
